Toy Story
Our story begins with a young boy named Andy (John Morris) playing with his cowboy toy called Woody (Tom Hanks) before his birthday party. Once Andy leaves Woody in his room, we find out that Woody, along with the rest of the toys, are alive. So, being the head toy, calls for a meeting where he alerts everyone that Andy's birthday party has been moved to today due to the family moving soon. The toys panic, but Woody eventually calms them down. He has the toy soldiers go down with a baby monitor to see what Andy is getting for his birthday. After he opens all of his presents, the soldiers let them know that Andy didn't get any new toys. Until his mom gets a surprise present from the closet. Andy opens it, brings it upstairs, and knocks Woody off the bed so he can set the toy down. After they all go downstairs, Woody descovers that Andy's new toy is known as Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), a space ranger who doesn't realize that he's a toy. So all the toys come to meet Buzz while Woody stands around being jealous. After a while, we begin to see that Andy is growing out of playing with Woody and would rather play with Buzz. This really gets Woody jealous because he wants to be head toy and not Buzz. We then meet Andy's neighbor Sid (Erik von Detten). This kid is pure evil as he likes to blow up and completely destroy toys. Then we continue with more of Woody being jealous and eventually knocking Buzz out a window. The rest of the toys accuse him of killing Buzz on purpose since he wanted to be head toy. Then Andy grabs Woody to take him to Pizza Planet. When they stop at a gas station, we discover that Buzz is alive and the two fight each other, which leads to them falling out of the car and being left behind. So now it is up to Buzz and Woody to get back to Andy.
Honestly, what can I say good about Toy Story that hasn't been said a million times? This was the very first film done entirely in CG and it looks amazing. You can definitly tell that a lot of hard work was put into this. Then you have the music. Every single song in here was done by Randy Newman and these are some of the most memorable and catchy songs you will ever hear. From the theme song "You've Got A Friend in Me" to "I Will Go Sailing No More", every single one of these songs is an immediate hit. They even work amazingly well for scenes that needed that extra little bit to get the audience involved and feeling for these characters. As for the voice actors, they all did flawless. Each and every one of them brought their A-game and never quit. These are some fantastic actors. The script is also amazing, having jokes, not just for kids, but some adult humor too. When you get right down to it, this movie is extremely dark. This is basically about a man trying to prove that he didn't murder another person. The darkness of the film really comes into play when the toys enter Sid's house. Let's just say that Sid's house is the toy version of Hell. There's some extremely creepy looking toys and what Sid does to these things is downright horrible. If this was all done to a human, it would be one gruesome film.
To be completely honest, there's not much wrong with Toy Story. But if I had to nitpick, the script does have a few bad lines every now and again with the toy puns. But there's not many of them and the ones that are there are quickly overshadowed by the other brilliant dialogue.
So should you see this film? Of course. This film is a classic in every sense of the word. It's a piece of history and has every right to be. It's suspensful, funny, charming, and wonderfully done. Toy Story is a film that every human being on the planet has to see.
