Pokemon the First Movie
Pokemon has become an extremely popular series among today's youth. So popular that it got a theatrical movie. Can this series of monsters really work on the big screen? Let's find out.
On some strange world, creatures known as Pokemon exist alongside their trainers. Our main trainer is known as Ash (Veronica Taylor), who is travelling with his Pokemon, Pikachu, along with two friends, Misty (Rachael Lillis) and Brock (Eric Stuart). However, this day turns rather interesting fast as a new Pokemon known as Mewtwo (Philip Bartlett) has been created by scientists in hopes of creating a clone of an incredibly rare Pokemon known as Mew. Mewtwo doesn't like that at all, so he blows up the building and killing everyone inside. So now Ash and the others set out to stop Mewtwo.
There isn't really a whole lot good to say here except for the villain. Mewtwo is an excellent villain and they do spend a bit of time showing you why he's doing what he's doing and how he got to being where he's at now. The soundtracks is also pretty good with some great songs.
Pretty much everything else with the movie is bad. The message that the movie wants to get across is beaten over your head with a metal baseball bat so many times that it'll come close to giving you brain damage. The characters are extremely simple minded with little to no creative thinking going into them. Then there's the ending. Oh God the ending. It's the most cliche and BS endings I've ever seen. It just makes no sense. I can buy that these creatures can fire extremely powerful bubbles out of their mouths, but not this. They also try to do this whole mystery thing with Mewtwo that would lead to a big reveal, but it's ruined since we know that it's him from the get-go. Let's not spend more time on this than we need to.
So is Pokemon the First Movie worth watching? Only if you're a fan of the show. For everyone else, stay away. It'll confuse you and pretty much ruin any form of respect you had for a children's movie based off a TV show.
