Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith
So now we have the last of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Is this a successful lead into the movies that we all know and love? Let's find out.
The film opens with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) fighting their way to Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) and rescue Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). They make it in and, with R2D2's help, they make it to Count Dooku. They battle it out and eventually defeat Dooku. After freeing Palpatine, they try to escape, but end up running into General Grievous (Matthew Wood). The fight it out with Grievous, but he eventually escapes and set the ship to crash with everyone else inside. Anakin and Obi-Wan land the ship safely and Anakin goes to see Padme (Natalie Portman). She says that she's pregnant, but that night, Anakin begins to have nightmares about Padme dying when she gives birth. So now everyone is trying to find and defeat Grievous, stop the war, and Anakin will stop at nothing to keep his nightmares from coming true.
For starters, a lot of the actors turn in amazing performances. Ewan McGregor does amazingly well as Obi-Wan. He really sounds and feels like a wise man that still knows how to have a bit of fun. Another great performance comes from Ian McDiarmid. He can really convey that he's got a secret that he doesn't want anyone knowing and really sounds convincing when he needs too. Also, thankfully, Jar-Jar Binks doesn't talk in this movie. Yeah, he has a few appearances, but he doesn't say anything, or at least not a lot if he does. The action scenes are wonderfully well done with some amazing special effects and music. Speaking of the music, it really caries the whole movie. It comes in at just the right time and makes the action scenes just that much better.
However, this film isn't perfect. Hayden Christensen is just a bore in this role. He doesn't show any emotion other than occasionally smiling. No matter what he's supposed to be feeling (sad, happy, angry, etc), he just sounds bland. The small amount of emotion he does show is towards the end of the movie and he really overacts with it. The same can be said about Natalie Portman, except for underacting. Again, like Hayden, she doesn't show much emotion and feels like she's forcing herself to be sad instead of naturally being sad by the moment.
So should you see Revenge of the Sith? Of course. Yeah, Hayden and Natalie turn in terrible performances, but everyone else pretty much outshines them and makes the movie worth seeing on the big screen, especially with those huge set pieces.
