Back to the Future
Time travel in a DeLorean. Sounds incredibly unbelievable. However, does this actually work or does it fail miserably? Let's find out.
In a small town, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) visits the house of his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). However, Brown isn't home. He eventually calls and informs Marty that he's late for school. Once he arrives to the school, he's stopped by his girlfriend and she tries to sneak him in. He's eventually caught and goes to class. After school, the two walk to the town square where they talk about their plans for the next night. Afterwards, Marty returns home where he finds his father's, George McFly's (Crispin Glover), car has been wrecked by his supervisor, Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson). Marty complains and the family eats dinner. Afterwards, Dr. Brown calls Marty to ask if he can get his camera on his way to see him. Marty agrees and heads off to see him. He arrives and out comes a DeLorean with Brown in the seat. He says that this is his new experiment, a time machine. He tests it by having his dog, Einstein, put into the driver's seat and driving the car until it reaches 88 miles per hour where it disappears. Brown says that he sent Einstein one minute into the future. After one minute, the car pops up with Einstein inside. The experiment is a success. This is where Brown admits that the car runs on plutonium to get the flux capasator running, which he stole from some Libyans. Eventually, the Libyans show up and shoot down Brown. Afterwards, Marty gets into the DeLorean and attempts to drive away. He accidentally activates the time travelling and travels thirty years into the past. So now Marty must find a way back to his own time along with plenty of other issues involving his mother and father.
The main thing that I really want to talk about that's so good about this movie is the soundtrack. Right away, this movie starts off with "Power of Love" by Hewey Lewis. It's the perfect song to set up what takes up a good chunk of the movie: getting Marty's mom and dad together. As for the main theme of the movie, it's so powerful and full of energy. It's perfect for a science fiction film like this. Through the entire movie, there's tons of amazing songs. My absolute favorite moment is the climax of the film where Marty plays "Johnny B Goode" by Chuck Berry. The way Marty plays it seems to just take you through music history all the way until the modern days of 1985. It's a fantastic way to just let the audience relax as the movie tries its best to calm down, even though there's still another problem to solve right afterwards. Now onto the writing. The writing for this movie is amazing. It's full of laughs and memorable lines that people will remember for a very long time.
Surprisingly, I don't have many flaws with this movie. The few that I do are so far and few between that it doesn't really even matter.
So should you watch Back to the Future? Of course you should. This is one of those movies that gets as close to perfect as possible. It's one that anyone and everyone should see. You're guaranteed to have a great time.
