The Avengers
Anticipation is the best word to describe the big hits this year. Everyone was waiting in anticipation of The Hunger Games and everyone is doing the same for the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. Until that day, let's take a loot at another anticipated movie. One that's been in the making since the first Iron Man film. It's time for The Avengers to assemble.
We begin by seeing an incident happen at S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters. An artifact, known as the Tesseract, is acting strangely, so Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is called in to asses the situation. All of a sudden, a beam is shot from the Tesseract and reveals the Asgardian known as Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Loki has come to take over the world and forces some of S.H.I.E.L.D's workers and agents to work for him. Then, S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters implodes. So Fury orders for the members of a secret program called The Avengers Initiative to come together. The members are Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). Once everyone is gathered, they are briefed on their current situation and begin to plot on how they can stop Loki.
Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark absolutely steals the show. He's hilarious, witty, smart, and the best character here. Speaking of hilarious, this film is actually extremely funny. The comedy is placed perfectly so that it doesn't ruin anything and doesn't distract from letting you know that it's an action movie. As for the fighting scenes, they're amazing. They're packed full of what everyone wants to see here. If I had to pick my favorite one, it would be the scene where the Hulk is just let loose on a S.H.I.E.L.D aircraft. It's so full of suspense and keeps the Hulk being what he's supposed to be. Freighting yet awesome.
Now everyone, put your flamethrowers and guns away. I don't have many problems with the movie. It just seems that the movie mainly focuses on 3 characters. Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff. It doesn't seem like there's as much screen time given to Thor, Bruce Banner, Nick Fury, or anyone else. It's not a huge problem, but since it was a fear of mine going into this film, I felt I should mention it.
So is this film worth watching? ARE YOU NUTS?!?!?!? This has got to be the best film of 2012. I don't see how anything for the rest of the year could beat how amazing this is. And for those of you planning on seeing this film, which you definitely should, try to watch the films that lead up to it before seeing it. You don't have to, but it would be nice to see them for some references.
