The Incredibles
We open up to a nice introduction of two of our main characters, Bob Parr a.k.a. Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Helen a.k.a. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), along with one of their friends, Lucius Best a.k.a Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). After the interview, we see Bob on his way to his wedding when he's informed on a police chase nearby. He changes into his Mr. Incredible outfit and goes after them in a James Bond-esque chase. On his way, he's stopped by an old lady that wants her cat out of a tree. So he stops to help and uses the tree to stop the thieves the cops were chasing. Afterwards, we meet a kid named Buddy Pine (Jason Lee). He's Mr. Incredible's number one fan and wants to help him. But Mr. Incredible ditches him and goes on to save the day from other crimes. At the end of the day, he notices a man jumping off a building. So naturally, he saves him, but meets a villain known as Bomb Voyage (Dominique Louis). Then Buddy interrupts them and Mr. Incredible is forced to save Buddy. After all of that, he goes to his wedding where he's marrying Helen. Afterwards, a newsreel pops up showing that the man that Mr. Incredible saved is suing him because he wanted to commit suicide. This leads to a bunch of lawsuits against every superhero in the world and thus causes them to give up their lives as superheroes and live normal lives. Zoom ahead 15 years where Bob is working for an insurance company and is living a happy life with his wife, Helen, and his three kids, Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Spencer Fox), and Jack Jack. Eventually, Lucius comes over and takes Bob out to stop some crime, which has become their secret hobby since Bob can't let the glory days go. After saving people from a burning building and almost getting arrested, they all go home where Bob is caught by his wife. The next day, he is called into his boss' office and eventually ends up throwing his boss through several walls and getting fired. When he gets home, he notices a letter that was in his suitcase that he didn't know about. He opens it up to reveal a lady named Mirage (Elizabeth Pena). She tells him that they have a job for him to do on an island. He calls and agrees. Later, she picks him up and takes him to the island. He's instructed to destroy a robot called the Omnidroid 9000. After some fighting, he eventually destroys it. Then later, after a couple montages, getting a new costume from Edna Mode (Brad Bird), and some other scenes, he's instructed to come back to the island. Once there, he finds another robot that's even tougher, which is controlled by the main antagonist, Syndrome, who reveals himself to be Buddy and wants to take revenge on Mr. Incredible for not letting him be his sidekick. So now it's up to Mr. Incredible to stop Syndrome before he takes over the world.
Where can I start with everything amazing in this film? Well, let's start with something many will notice right away. There's tons, and I mean tons, of scenes that pay respect to famous superheroes, especially Superman. From the difference between their hero identity to their secret identity only being something that covers their eyes and nothing else, to a scene at the end where Bob reveals his Incredible suit exactly how Superman reveals his super suit. Even the main villain, Syndrome, is kind of like a pissed off version of Robin. Then there's the action scenes, and boy are there a lot of action scenes. Everything in this movie is treated as if it's big and epic. Even something small is treated this way. But this really shines during the fights and especially during the final climactic fight against the robot Syndrome sends to the city. As for the movie's concept, I've never seen it done this great. Not only did they create a believable world where superheroes exist, but they managed to create a believable family of superheros. Even when their in the middle of a battle, they still act like a family. A great example of this is right before the climactic battle where Bob is driving everyone down this freeway and is arguing with his wife about what exit to take. May seem small and many may just forget that scene, but it really shows that not even the threat of a giant robot can stop this family from acting like a family. The family aspect also plays a major role in the comedy of this film too, which is also hilarious. I actually laughed out loud to some of the jokes in this film. Lastly, the visuals. Oh my God, the visuals. I was stunned by the fact that Pixar finally managed to get down how to make a human look. They've been having trouble for so long that when I saw the characters in this film, I was proud for Pixar and wanted to congratulate them.
There's not much bad about the film. The only problem I can think of is my personal favorite character, Edna, not getting enough screen time since she was hilarious.
So should you see this film? Of course. Incredibles is a film for everyone. It's a film for kids, people that grew up loving superheroes, and adults. No one should go without seeing this film. Pixar, please make a sequel to this amazing film. And please include Edna more. She was an incredibly likeable character that didn't get as much screen time as I believe she deserved.
